Emmaus Patch Top Dog Winner: Peter Derr

Chihuahua Peter Derr edges out Shih Tzu Malky by a nose.

It has been quite the dogfight, but after two hard-fought weeks, we have a winner in the Emmaus Patch top dog contest.

Congratulations to contestant number five, Chihuahua Peter Derr.

Peter edged out contestant number 11, a Shih Tzu named Malky, by a nose.

It was a tail-to-tail battle, and a recount was called. In the end, a late vote by what is assumed to be a member of Peter’s family – Kevin Derr – who cast his ballot on July 4, after the official voting period ended, was discounted.

But, even so, Peter came out on top, with 13 votes to Malky’s 12.

No word yet on whether the contest results will be tossed to the Canine Supreme Court.

In entering Peter in the contest, his family wrote the following caption for his picture:

“This is Peter, our Chihuahua. He is special because he makes us laugh every day by playing with his best friend, Larry the cat, chasing his green ball, or racing in circles around the house. He's even won over our dad!”

Peter also won over Emmaus Patch. Next he moves on to the regional Patch Top Dog battle in which he will compete against the local Top Dog winners from the other Lehigh Valley Patches.

The voting for that level runs from July 9 to 20, and again, will take place in the comments section of a regional Patch Top Dog competition article (which will be posted on July 9).

So, if you want to make the Emmaus Patch Top Dog the top Patch dog in the Lehigh Valley, visit emmaus.patch.com on Monday and start voting for Peter Derr in the comments section.

Vote early and vote often. Only one vote will be counted, but it will be a great way to psych out the competition!
