Borough Observes Flag Day With Special Celebration
Program in Community Park will include musical performances, readings and guest speakers.
The Borough of Emmaus’ annual Flag Day celebration will take place at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, June 12, in .
Sponsored by the Emmaus Flag Day Association, the Emmaus Veterans Committee and the Emmaus Special Entertainment Committee, the event will feature performances of various patriotic musical selections by the Emmaus Chorale and a solo vocal and guitar performance by Joel Shimer.
The Emmaus Chorale has performed 24 years for this Flag Day program.

Emmaus Mayor Winfield Iobst is scheduled to deliver the welcome and proclamation and the Hon. Donald Snyder is on the agenda as the keynote speaker.
Plus, the 2011 Flag Day writing contest winners, who were charged with exploring the theme of “What the American Flag Means to Me,” will also read their winning entries during the program. Fifth-grade contestants were asked to write poems, while 8th-graders wrote essays.

The event will close with an audience sing-a-long, including “I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” and “God Bless America.”
In the United States, Flag Day is officially celebrated on June 14.
