Black Bear Visits Emmaus Home

What appears to be a black bear stopped by a home on Shimerville Road in Emmaus on Wednesday evening.

It's tough to call a black bear an unusual visitor these days.

But, nonetheless, Mark Vanim found the black bear who sauntered up to his home in the 5000 block of Shimerville Road interesting enough to snap a picture of it before it left. And, his mom thought it enough of a curiosity to let Emmaus Patch know about it.

As Vanim's mom tells the story, at about 7 p.m. on Wednesday Vanim saw what appeared to be a black bear in his driveway.

"He grabbed his dog and went into his house as he watched the bear travel up his driveway, stop at his pavilion and wander down the driveway to his neighbor's house," Vanim's mother explains in an email message.

Vanim then tried to call his neighbor, but no one was home, his mother writes.

Vanim took a picture of the bear. His fiancee emailed that picture, which appears with this article, to Patch.
