2011 Vera Cruz Halloween Parade Canceled

Continued rain causes parade organizers to pull the plug on this year's Vera Cruz Halloween parade.

Parade organizers have cancelled the Vera Cruz Halloween parade for 2011 due to the continued rainy conditions.

. According to parade chair person Chris Barebo, the parade committee is out of options.

“We only had road closing permits for the 12th and 13th,” Barebo said in a telephone message. “So, we are pulling the plug. Wishful thinking didn’t get it for us. In the interest of public safety and the safety of our marchers, we are cancelling the parade for this year. There is no further rain date. We will regroup and hope we have better weather for next year.”

In a telephone interview yesterday Barebo said that the decision about whether or not to hold the parade needs to take into account more than just whether or not it is raining at the time the parade is supposed to begin.

Organizers also need to worry about how soggy the ground is in the parade's staging area, which includes the grassy fields around .
