Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
Our mystery photograph shows part of one of the snowflake paintings made during the community art project held in The Clock Building during the 6th Annual Emmaus SnowBlast Winter Festival Feb. 3 and 4. The paintings ultimately moved on to Lee Gribbens where they were showcased during a post-SnowBlast reception later in February. We left the identity of this mystery photo a mystery for two weeks, but had no guesses at all! On Wednesdays Emmaus Patch will post an unusual mystery photo that we need some help in identifying or a picture taken somewhere in Emmaus/Upper Milford Township and ask you…
This week's "What is it? Wednesday" photo was taken in the basement of the Emmaus Patch headquarters. The "tool" in the center of the photo was found hanging on the wall in the basement when we moved in and we have no idea what it is or what it's for. If you have any thoughts on what it might be or can help put it in context, please tell us in the comments or email jennifer.marangos@patch.com. Check back on Friday and we'll let you know what we've discovered. To submit your own “What is it? Wednesday” photo, email jennifer.marangos@patch.com

Thank you to all of the Emmaus Patch users who tried to help us figure out exactly what is pictured in this week’s mystery photo. We had guesses on the Emmaus Patch site and on the Emmaus Patch Facebook page, but a definitive answer has yet to emerge. Emmaus Patch user careless fills had this to say on the Patch site: “Vent for underground utility such as sewer or blowoff valve.” Sounds plausible. On Facebook Thirza Peevey said: “My guess would be that its a fresh air vent for an underground bomb shelter or root cellar.” Another good answer… Also on Facebook, Jessica Gauld said: “A driven …

This week's mystery photograph is indeed of one of the many train signs hanging on the wall outside of St. Margaret’s Nursery School on Elm Street in Emmaus. Good guess Jennifer Elston! Founded in 1981, St. Margaret’s Nursery School is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the 2011-2012 school year. The nursery school offers programs for children ages 2 through 5. And, "trains" are the school's logo. Congratulations to Emmaus Patch user Zephyr who helped to solve a great mystery in the Emmaus Patch photo archives. Zephyr totally nailed it. The picture shows a saddle rack. A quick Google search confirmed Zephyr’s answer as being correct. This type of saddle rack has a list price of $19.95 but can be purchased for about $11. More modern metal versions exist, but they don’t have the rustic charm of the wooden one. Emmaus Patch received several guesses on this one via email and on the Emmaus Patch Facebook page. The most common “wrong” answer that was sent in was “owl perch installed to …

Okay, okay, so you guessed it…this week’s mystery photo shows one of the many “open” flags seen along Main Street in Emmaus. This particular flag is hanging in front of Armetta’s. (I snapped the picture with my iPhone the other day while heading in to meet the Lower Macungie Patch editor for a bite to eat.) These flags are provided to Main Street businesses by the Emmaus Main Street Partners. Thank you to everyone who posted correct guesses on Emmaus Patch: vickie gruver Nathan Brown Debbie Kropkowski Maher Nancy Jo Mulry --  Sorry Nancy Jo, it isn’t the flag in front of House Splendid.
