Should Emmaus ban Commercial Trucks From Parking in Borough?
Emmaus is considering an ordinance that would prohibit commercial trucks from parking on borough streets except under certain circumstances. Is that a good idea? Take our poll.
Last week Emmaus Borough Council had the first reading of an ordinance that would bar commercial trucks from parking on public streets except to load or unload and during times of road construction.
Borough officials said many residents have complained about truck parking, saying it is a safety concern and a line-of-sight problem for other drivers. They say the trucks take up space needed for resident parking.
But readers commenting on an Emmaus Patch story on the ordinance said it was unconstitutional, would make it harder for truckers to earn a living and may force them to move out of Emmaus.
