A terrorist organization? Really? You do know that the NRA is a lobbying group right? You see what happens is that citizens join this group and then they represent their opinions in our government...

Even if what they are representing is something that is already protected by the constitution and the Supreme Court has rulled is an individual right separate from being part of a formal militia group... which liberals also like to label as terrorist groups.

It's not guns it's people. I have a right to defend myself. I have a right to hunt, I raise and hunt for my food. I don't want government approved food from the grocery store, I want to raise my own, and I also hunt for my food with my gun. Besides if a country would try to invade our country how will we protect ourselves? GUNS! That's why so many other countries don't invade our country, we are all armed. Our country needs to have harsher punishments to those who use guns for the wrong reasons. The death penalty. And the media needs to stop going on and on about these crimes on the news, internet, and in the papers. Where do people think kids get the ideas to kill others from??? They learn from what they hear and see on the news, internet, and news papers.

AMEN! I just said that at work today, if some or all of the teachers were trained and carried a concealed weapons permits this could have saved some or all of them. People kill people, not guns. If it's not guns, it's some other weapon that people will use such as bombs, bows, knives, bats, vehicles. The list can go on. Why are people so focused on guns.

What about childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes? Are the sweets that children eat not causing the same harm to the kids as they do adults? Many would contend that children eating lots of sweets is even more harmful because it sets them into a life long pattern of eating these high fat high caloric foods. Although the argument of they are only harming themselves does kinda work, until a kid's parents die of a heart attack at age 40 and leave that kid without a parent.

Also We have a 1st Amendment right to freedom of speech and religion, those rights are equally as old, are those also no longer relevant due to age? Our founding fathers couldn't have foreseen TV, Radio, and the internet, should 1st Amendment protections not apply in those areas only in print and in person media?

You have a poor understanding of our Constitution then, and while I don't particularly care from which country you hail, I would appreciate it if you at least tried to understand our Constitution. It's a living document, meaning that it can change over time. Our founding fathers established with the Constitution a form of government that would last over time and could be adapted to fit those times.

However, the document itself is original,and the bill of rights was established so that the Constitution would not crumble like earlier governments. 2nd amendment included. Yes, many things have changed in society since 1791, but there again, we made provisions for those very changes. The SCOTUS decides constitutionality, meaning they hear cases and interpret the Constitution to decide what the best ruling would be. It's not always perfect, but it at least comes close.

I am not for banning guns, but I do think better legislation could be written to protect people.And those will be long discussions, as they should be. And, one would hope, bipartisan.

What really killed those children was the delusion that a "gun free" zone protects people. What do all of the recent shootings have in common? They were in gun free zones. Gun free zones are victim zones.

While the perpetrators of these horrible actions were most likely totally insane, they were not stupid. They picked places where they would be able to carry out their atrocity without fear of being stopped by an armed citizen. They also got what they wanted didn't they? Now look at them! Their action is on the news 24/7 and people will remember them!

I don't have children of my own. I work in a school almost 2,000 miles away from where this happened. That Friday, we had a snow day, and I was with two of my friends. We all work at the same school. We were lounging around on the floor, watching a movie and making goodie bags for the 5th graders when we heard the news.

My school is a private, Catholic school with less than 400 students K-12. I know every student in the high school, and a good number of the younger children as well. When I heard what had happened, my heart felt like it was breaking. I was stunned, speechless...crying as my friend read aloud one of the news reports. I wanted to go and find all of my kids and hug them. I wanted to forget every time I grew irritated with them or sent them out into the hall. I wanted them to know that even though this tragedy happened far from the doors of our school, we would stand united with the students and community of Sandy Hook.

Yes, I don't have children of my own flesh, but every student who comes through my classroom door is my child. I couldn't fathom losing a student, or a child, or a sibling in this massacre and I am not going to pretend like I understand what it is like. I don't, and I pray I never will.

I love teaching, my job, my kids...so many little details that only my fellow teacher friends get. I can't imagine what the CT community is going through. I don't know how I can help except to protect my kids from all I can with what I have.

But in the aftermath of the Newtown massacre, it is hard not to over-respond to people like some of the ones above.
Seems like they can not follow the original discussion line, gun violence in US, and either mumble, or are parroting rehearsed lines of the hard right fringe.
