As police investigate a local case of nude teen photos online, "sexting" is not just part of adolosecent peer pressure in Emmaus or the Lehigh Valley.
Australia recently offered one of the first academic investigations into sexting from a teenager's perspective, according to this PsychCentral report.
New technology and a "highly sexualized media culture" are part of the complex problem, the report says. Celebrities (Rihanna, for instance) who engage in sexting factor into the trend, as noted on the website Schools & Degrees.
Also, the study shows boys pressure each other to have photos of girls on their phones and computers, as noted in this CBS report.
Emmaus police are investigating nude photo sharing among Emmaus High School students that may have led to some of those photos showing up on a porn website.
