Student dancers will be getting their groove on at Lower Macungie Middle School from 3 to 9 p.m. today to raise money for the Four Diamonds Fund supporting children with pediatric cancer.
The event, being dubbed the first-ever LMMS mini-THON is the brain-child of eighth-grader Brook Schaffer, who was inspired by the well-known Penn State THON dance-a-thon, founded in 1973 to raise money for childhood cancer research.
The Penn State THON has evolved into an annual two-day event held at Penn State each year in February.
Schaffer and a group of student planners organized the LMMS event and local businesses have contributed food, beverages and other items that will be provided to dancers and guests.
Prizes in different categories will be awarded, including an autographed PSU football signed by Coach Bill O’Brien.
