Lehigh Valley Tea Party Preps for Election Season

The rallying cry has been issued.
At its August monthly meeting, leaders of the Lehigh Valley Tea Party urged its members to get active this election campaign season.
"We have to get the word out," President Barb Walters said during the meeting at the Charles Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township.
"When we go out to community events, people don't know us. But we've been here four years," she said. "We need more of an outreach and get people to know the Tea Party."
She suggested that members reach out to their local legislators, governments and school board to spread the Tea Party message.
"We need to get active, get involved," member Bryan Eichfeld said. "There's the presidency, Senate, the new congressional district No. 17. Show up. We need to show support."
Eichfeld said that Tea Party members are good conservatives.
"We're non-partisan. We cannot endorse politicians," he said. "But volunteer, get involved. Make an individual effort."
According to its website, the Tea Party's mission is as follows:
"The mission of the LVTP is to educate our members and the Lehigh Valley community about our unalienable individual rights and limited government as defined by the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution so that they become involved in their government for the purpose of protecting and defending these rights."
Walters said the organization has it "tough."
"We know what the mainstream media thinks of us," she said. "But there are no Tea Party candidates. There's not Democrats, Republicans and the Tea Party."

The Tea Party is nothing more than the Republican base on acid. We're seeing what these people are doing in congress from the election of 2010 and I for one will never support any "Tea Party" candidate. They are ALL completely out of touch with ordinary Americans.

Seems odd that there's such a large focus on the Tea Party here on patch. It's almost like the site is being used as a pulpit for the group. Just my two cents.

Wonderful thing about the patch is anyone can use it as a pulpit. I'm very much a moderate republican and write blogs all the time on here. You have to give the tea party one thing. They can organize. I do agree they are a bit out of touch. But unfortunately the vast % of the public is the silent moderates. I wish moderates would engage more. The tea party is commandeering the republican party message and it's not healthy. IMHO Equally as bad as the far left commandeering the Democrats message. (they try, but are much less successful)

You see Amend, liberals hate a free and open exchange of ideas and thoughts. Anyone who disagrees with their orthodoxy is labeled and attacked personally.
Patch is a free and open forum which allows the exchange of ideas and thoughts. That's why you see conservative people commenting here (because they can, not like the mainstream media where they're locked out) and liberals like Frank are foaming at the mouth because of it.

No foam from me. Just expressing my opinion...as you are doing. And by the way...liberals are just as American as conservatives and also believe in free and open exchange of ideas and thoughts. You need to let the Tea Party people and the party of NO, know this little fact.

So the whole Chick Fill-A thing, where a conservative exercised his right to freedom of speech, and the liberal response was veiled threats from elected officials - that was the liberal version of a free and open exchange?
Face it Frank. Conservatives can be bad, but liberals take the cake in terms of hostility, hatred, threats and blocking free speech.

All liberals had a problem with Chick Fill- A? You sure paint with a broad brush, huh? I could care less about what a CEO of a company say's, but I like knowing so that I will make sure none of my dollars support that business. And since you mention boycotts, what about all those conservatives that held the big boycott of Disney for allowing "Gay Days"? Forgot about that one...right?

Nope - I said conservatives can be bad, but if you look at it objectively, it's worse on the liberal side. They couch their closed-mindedness and hatred in support of certain causes - if you disagree with them, then the personal attacks come out, and always lead to charges of racism.
How many 'safety tents' did women need at tea party events, in order to not be raped or assulted? None. At Occupy Wall Street, rape was a daily occurrence.
So who's worse?

You've got to be kidding. Have you ever been to a Tea Party event? If not, check them out on YouTube and also the Town Hall meetings that were lined with conservatives spewing hatred and even shouting obscenities at everyone who didn't agree with their narrow-minds.
We could go back and forth all day with our "opinions". You have yours and I have mine. But you're not going to have me believe that conservatives are any less "bad".

I've been to them Frank, I don't rely on 2 minutes of pasted-together clips to form opinions. I also went to OWS as I wanted to see for myself. What I see is liberals are worse, and it's an informed opinion as I've gone to both.

Interested bystander, you are taking the incident at Zuccotti Park and using it to slam every one of the OWS events? The sickos that were raping weren't even a part of the protest. They just used the event as a way to get in and do their dirty deed. Certainly you can not be this naive?

Frank there were churches that were desecrated, women raped and assaulted, men assaulted and robbed in broad daylight, public urination and defecation, and countless other problems - all condoned by the organizers (and there were organizers).
Were you there? I was, and it was worse than anything you saw in the press.

We did a preview of a shale event and covered it (after all Shale is a big deal) and then I had a story about what happened at their meeting. That's it.

I went to the 9/11 rally in DC a few years ago along with maybe 500,000 people. I saw no hatred, bigotry.....I saw middle income people from all over the country that were concerned about the growth of government control, out of control spending and the weakening of family values. After all of these people left, the grounds were almost spotless.
I hear so many falsehoods and wonder how someone who has never personally experienced a t party rally can be so vehemently judgemental. But it happens all the time.......so much for trying to understand and know your presumed "enemy" before you verbally attack them !

The problem with all groups are that you have to be careful of the sickos. They can bring your organization down because people will focus on the bad more than the good. Go back to the mission of the group and help the organizers manage. Don't be do desperate for members that you lose your focus.

I agree. I cannot see how any tea party member can support Romney. He is and was everything they are against. I understand a vote and support for Paul or Johnson, but not Romney. Voting for Romney from them would make them "lost" and hypocrites.
