10 Things To Do if You See a UFO

John Royer searches for UFOs over Emmaus, and across the Lehigh Valley.

In an interview with The Morning Call, Patch reader and Emmaus resident John T. Royer explains how twice he saw a big, black triangular object in the sky, at night, that blocked out the stars.

One of those objects, Royer says, appeared over Emmaus High School in 2003.

Those experiences got him interested in UFOs, and his research led him to become a volunteer field investigator for the Mutual UFO Network, called MUFON.

Royer, 65, retired as a drafting instructor from Lincoln Technical Institute, and is a graduate of Lafayette College. Now he investigates dozens of sightings throughout the Lehigh Valley, most of which, he says, are mistakes.

Royer makes no judgment about what he or others think the saw, but in the interview he says, 'I believe there is something flying around out there that we don’t know about.'

Read the complete story in The Morning Call.

What about you? Have you ever seen a UFO? When, what did you see? Let us know.

In the mean time, according to MUFON, if you have a close encounter in the future, here are 10 things you should do:

1. REMAIN CALM, but protect yourself from any hazards real or perceived.

2. Be objective. Not every UFO is extraterrestrial.

3. Use a camcorder or camera to record the event.

4. If you have a tape recorder, record your description of the event as it happens.

5. If other witnesses are present ask them to also write or record their observations.

6. If the UFO left some trace of its presence behind do not disturb the area around it.

7. If the sighting is from a distance, at an arms length, what would it take to cover up the object? A Quarter? A Penny?

8. Try to judge the distance from you to the object, the objects altitude, and its speed.

9. Should you encounter some type extraterrestrial being associated with the craft be prepared to take evasive action to protect yourself.

10. Immediately report the event to a UFO research organization.

Since this morning, I have had a number of people contact me by e-mail, by phone, and a few minutes ago in person reporting sightings that they were reluctant to ever report. Dan, the friendly Morning Call reporter made a joke near the end of his article. Somehow I feel that he's right in the universe way. I am becoming Mulder and my wife is becoming Sculley. My father would get the biggest kick out of this if he were still alive because he had a terrific sense of humor. John Royer 6 PM

Mr. Blount, I was doing a review and reread your comment of 7-13-2011. I wish to add something more to my previous response.

Even though I like to kid about coffee and doughnuts with ET, I have to admit that I would feel exactly the same as you if it happened. I just wouldn't admit it to ET. And, ET might feel the same about you or me. ET would be vulnerable on a face to face basis with a non-ET. You and I would be ugly and mean looking to ET.

WE would be the aliens.

Yes, I bet ET would be as nervous as us. We don't have a good galactic reputation, I am sure. Too much war and hatred. Not enough forgiveness. Not enough openness.

I just looked in the mirror. Yikes! I scared myself! Imagine how ET would feel!!!

I hope the weather is good wherever you are, Mr. Blount. Ours gets crazy at times.
All my best to you and your family.

John,
I live in Westbrook, ME on almost any given night Im out on my porch several times smoking my cigarette an looking up because of what I saw. Several times performing the same ritual I have seen the same solid light screaming across the sky, it looks like a star it is so small I can barely follow it an then it vanishes, it's a solid dot of light, no trail, it changes directions, but mostly what I've noticed is that it always appears near Orion's Belt. What I have seen multiple times has been as you decribed, only here I see the same light the size of a star, solid, no blinking what so ever. One account i ran in the house an got my, nephew, niece, sister, an brother in-law we all saw this light an all the sudden as this light went across the sky in incredible speed it changed it's direction 3 seperate times almost doing what it looked like was a zig zag before completely vanishing. Now I live 5 min. from an Airport this was no plane I see the same light almost 3 or 4 times a month an never when the moon is full I don't know if the light from the moon makes it harder to see or what... I've been telling people of these sightings in which I cannot explian an they laugh but I know what I saw.

Thanks John for telling us where to report UFO sightings. I've seen 2 now, the latest one was just a little over a week ago. My hubby and I were sitting outside, we live near Temecula, CA, and we heard a helicopter approaching. Then we saw 2 Blue balls of light, that were flying in tandem slightly above where the helicopter was at. The helicopter, which I'm assuming was military, appeared like it was trying to follow these blue balls of light, but the lights were much faster than the helicopter and they flew across the sky in a matter of a few seconds and then were gone. This happened on Thursday, July 28 at about 9:00 pm. I will make a report on Mufon as well.

Out of the reports you have seen. Has anyone given any details or have had contact with the pilots of these ships? If so, what have they said they look like?

I stood below a massive ufo in a horizontal position (50ft) from the surface. Despite the height, it was still "offloading" things onto the surface. Since I am a firm believer these events are not by chance, I have kept this location secret until such time as I can purchase a high-tech ground penetrating radar system ie; GPR. I would however offer this information to MUFON. There is much much more to this incident, of which Mr Royer would in fact have met someone that has had contact. Unfortunatly, it is never just a "event", and the only words I can use to describe this is., liken to our personal software being rewritten and our lives forever changed. In the case of UFO's, it is not prudent to be a "ambulance chaser", because you will be left with something that is against your ability to choose.

Mr. Blount, I have not received any reports of ET making personal contact. The reports are still mostly "lights in the sky acting oddly" with a few reports of "outlines." I just received one of each this morning. ET remains elusive as regards making personal contact in the Lehigh Valley, Darn it. I have a hunch that the majority of folks in the Lehigh Valley would like to invite ET in for coffee and doughnuts. Watch, the first ET will drop in at Dunkin' Doughnuts and disappoint all of us (except for the store's staff).

Mr. Royer, I have stood underneath a triangular ufo close enough to see the texture of the outter material. This object projected thoughts of contempt and evolving clarity in my thoughts over several years. The object that I witnessed, projected clear and strong thoughts at me and it was clear that the object which I stood below was designed for war and or conquest. I further believe that the earth goes through pole shifts which these species are aware of, and are here to settle in a water envirement after man has disapeared.. With respect to Mufon, I have recently filled out the online form.

I went to the web site to record my siting, but it's full of articles and unrelated stuff. My siting was in 1965, Colorado, daylight. An extremely large "ship" hovered only about 20' off the ground. My driver friend was terrified, but I leaped out of the car, just thrilled beyond belief. It seemed to envelope me in a feeling of great love, and was there about ten minutes - my friend was sure it was longer though she had her head buried in the steering wheel. It was quite large, about 40 yards and oval, a kind of no shine material with a small, black row of windows. A clean design. It finally started to spin, took off straight up in the sky and when almost out of sight it veered to the north west. When we returned to Colorado Springs, in those days you could report a siting, I phoned the Air Force line and was #487 who'd seen it. No photos, no video - it was 1965. I do have ink wash drawings I did that day. Thanks a lot. Kathy Kurutz

Kathy, if you go to the upper right corner of the web site picture, you will see REPORT A UFO. It's kind of faint. Hit that and fill in whatever information you wish and then hit enter and it's done. If you wish, I'll do it in your name. Let me know if that's what you want me to do and if you want me to use your name or put you in as an anonymous person. It's your choice. We try to make it as uncomplicated as possible. Thanks again.

Scroll down, left side, MUFON. You've made a horrendous mistake.

Still waiting for MUFON to show, after it told me I would be visited. It has been two years. They lie. No, cable TV isn't enough to buoy its ethic. You are all talk. Enjoy the imagery. And just stop the dis-ingenuousness guys and gals of MUFON. If you really want my slides, you'll have to act professionally. You have my name. Now search your files and find my phone number originally given to you.

This is the last time I contact MUFON. Until it analyses the slides, it is amateur hour.

About 3 years ago me and my girlfriend drove our car in denmark, europe.. It was a sunny day no clouds. And thats probably why this white object caught my eye. It slowly moved across the sky and i just stared at it for a minute or so. Then all of a sudden it accelerated to amazing speed straight up and vanished. There was this white cloud looking line after it when it took of. Blury kinda. Like when you se somthing pass by whit high speed. So i do not think it was exhaust from the aircraft. Now the wierd thing was that a few seconds after it disapeared an airplane flew into the exact same spot where the ufo was. To me it seem that the ufo flew away to avoid beeing seen or crashed in to by the plane.

Things like town, date, etc. Skip anything you don't know or don't care to enter into the file. If you go to MUFON for northern Europe, you will find some interesting data. Europeans are more open about full disclosure than we are.

I was a young girl. It was about 1975. I lived in Glendora, Ca. I was at a friends house who lives right across the street from me. It was about 5:00am when we looked out the bedroom window. the whole street and sky above us was green like a large light was over the top of us. It stayed that way for about 5 minutes.. Didn't see what it was and didn't dare go outside but it was pretty cool.

Mr. Gardener:

Is this how MUFON operates? By baiting "...called your bluff?

Please. If you made a good faith effort, fine. This isn't trial discovery. I still have the slides, albeit, now over a decade old, but pristine.

Possibly, MUFON's agent made the mistake of not writing down the content of say, our conversation...or failed to contact the local guy...or the local guy....failed to...

Conversely, I told everyone I knew that I made the contact and was well, excited.

Since my site has reached thousands of eyes and the subject images are already out there reaching inquisitive and critical eyes for the most part, I'll be brief:

Nobody has found anything close to what my pictures show in the astro-catalogs..nor has anyone contacted me challenging their authenticity, by any media transmission. I even linked on the Huffington Post twice, in three separate articles, to my images. I got hits, and thanks to you many more. That wasn't my objective. My work, if you bothered to look, is, however.

I know it's been a while, but do you think MUFON would like to see what authentic images of a UFO without all the colorful column-inches, look like? Pictures that I publicly stand behind?

If MUFON is to impress, it should at least examine the positives, no? Email me, Bob, and I'll try again. Who is the local MUFON rep for SoCal near Riverside?

Now, I need to get back to work.

All best,
Stephen Pitt

It's O.K. guys. My wife and I were cracking up over this today. Oh, she remembers.

MUFON is now or was national and now is international. (WOW) I contacted national, I suppose, and they told me they'd contact the local rep. Very cool indeed, we thought.

It's O.K. I had other things on my mind that night in Joshua Tree, I'm sure, even if this caught our attention early, near the Dipper, where the faint fuzzies(galaxies) are found. While it was a profoundly beautiful object having a spin axis and skewed shape, it remains a UFO.

It wasn't a balloon or shuttle reentry either, (I research) as the object held static. It was there for a few minutes, then it was gone. Neither of us saw it fade or leave a trail. I'm sure we weren't the only lucky ones that night. The spot is popular once a month with astronomers.

Thanks, John, for that. I'll give them a call. You all have a great week.

Due to a technical glitch, the recommendations aren't showing up on this blog. Computers!!!! You gotta' love 'em!
Editor Jennifer Marangos promises to get it fixed soon.
Jennifer has a job that I describe as "puttin' her up to her eyeballs in alligators."
God bless you, Jennifer.

Anyway...
The actual Emmaus Patch total is 241.
The Salisbury Patch total is 101 and does show up.
That's a total of 342 recommendations in a little over a month.
That fact causes me to wonder why there is such an inordinately large amount of interest in the UFO subject in such a very small area of The Lehigh Valley.
Draw your own conclusions, folks.

Check The History Channel tonight for many more UFO documentaries.
One of them is a two hour episode that will wind up your imagination something fierce. Maybe they DON'T want to stop by for coffee and doughnuts.

I sure hope that ain't true!!!!
I like the scenario of the water glass called "The glass is half full" rather than the other one called "The glass is half empty."

When one appears right in front of you, at 4 a.m. And just hovers for about 2 minutes, then slowly turns transparent--disappears--, close enough to where you could see the (ribs) in the construction of the "ship", You'll believe. I only told a few people cause I can't stand even a hint of non-believers. I don't have time to hear, Maybe it was this,- Maybe it was that, If I had ANY question Maybe I'd be open for non-believers, But this is a case where---Don't even start, or attempt to change the truth.

At about 1:30am last night, myself and 2 other friends were driving on cedar crest blvd. heading toward Emmaus High.
