Henry Beitler was born on a farm in Lower Milford in 1917. When that farm was sold in 1937, he moved with his family to Old Zionsville, which he affectionately calls, "the village."

As a young man, he worked in a Studebaker garage as a mechanic. Later, just months before he was drafted into WWII, he got a job at Mack Trucks. And except for a few years away to fight in the war, Beiter has called Old Zionsville home.

After the war he became assistant postmaster when the post office was in a hardware store. He later became postmaster of Old Zionsville. A position he held for nearly 30 years.

In his village, he started the Boys Scouts troop, was fire chief, chair of the Upper Milford recreation commission and now a member of the Upper Milford Histoical Society.
