Get Ready to say Farewell to Summer

The new Emmaus event is coming on Sept. 10 and pre-registration for certain activities must be done by Aug. 27.

Editor's Note: This story has been revised to explain the role of Air Products in underwriting costs associated with an outdoor movie showing at the library.

Need a lift and break from discouraging news? Teri Madison of and Retail Committee Chair Donna Marks talked this past spring about exactly that - the need for people to have a break from the economy, unemployment, Afganisthan, the housing market.

Madison and Marks wanted a community day in Emmaus for people to totally forget about the world’s problems and enjoy themselves wholeheartedly. And, they’ve pulled together a fantastic event new to Emmaus: Farewell Summer Festival on Saturday, Sept. 10, starting at 10 a.m.

The festival, which they wanted to be no cost or low cost because of the economy, should draw people to Emmaus for a day filled with children’s art activities, live music, horse and buggy rides, sidewalk sales, face painting, balloon artists, ducks in the fountain, and much, much more.

One of the coolest events of the festival is the liquid nitrogen ice cream stand, sponsored by Air Products. The ice cream mix freezes instantly with the injection of liquid nitrogen. Samples are free.

Highlights of the festival are hot dog and banana split eating contests. There’s also cookie and cupcake decorating, a BBQ rib cook off and an apple pie baking contest.
