Emmaus High School Remains Closed Friday Due to Bomb Threat
Afternoon activities at Emmaus High School were cancelled on Thursday due to a bomb threat and the high school will remain closed on Friday as a precautionary measure, according to East Penn Superintendent of Schools Thomas L. Seidenberger.
East Penn Superintendent of Schools Thomas L. Seidenberger notified all East Penn School District families through a EduLink pre-recorded telephone call that Emmaus High School will remain closed on Friday, due to a bomb threat earlier today.
The high school and all administrative offices at the high school will be closed on Friday, as a precautionary measure, Seidenberger said, although the bomb threat is not believed to be credible. Law enforcement officials will be searching and sweeping the building.
In addition, all EHS day/evening activities are cancelled for Friday.
Afternoon activities at EHS were cancelled sometime after 3 p.m. on Thursday in response to the threat.
All other East Penn School District schools will remain open on Friday, according to the recorded message.

They are closing as a safty precaution and are working with local law enforcement to ensure the safty and lives of children and adults. As a parent of east penn students I appriciate the fact they are doing this.

They are all sick hoaxes that kids think are funny. It's disgusting I hope they find the person who did this to this school. . But if the police and officials feel the threat is not credible and have searched the school--I see no reason for it to be closed today. What's next--all schools closed indefinitely due to the possibility of another fake threat?

Me too. I also hope and feel they will catch who did this. If it's a kid doing this - kids it's not a joke anymore. After what we saw happen to those innocent little children in Conn. the punishment for these types of things should go up as a deterrent. It costs man power and money to check these things out and if your caught you should be billed for it.

Hey foiks, we're finding there have been threats/hoaxes like this at schools in many states in the past few days and we will have a story about that posted tomorrow morning.

I guess the crazies are coming out of the wood work...50 years ago we had a rash of these threats in my high school and they did not stop until the caught the people doing it. Don't know what happened to them...never saw them again ..

After Columbine happened, in 1999, we had a bomb threat called in to the school every day at the same time for about a month. Daily, halfway through biology class, the fire alarm went off, and we stood outside in the cold for 40 minutes while the bomb-sniffing dogs went inside, and then we went back in. They finally caught the kid that was calling in the bomb threats. I appreciate that the school would rather err on the side of safety in this case, but it is probably just some copycat jerk like we had back then.

I am glad that Emmaus High School took action on this bomb threat to ensure the safety of the students, teachers, and staff. However, more needs to be done. Simple changes can be made to prevent future acts of violence. Hopefully, the district will consider making these changes along with some others with the goal of creating a safe learning environment.
1) All students should not be allowed to carry their backpacks to classes.
2) All classrooms should have doors that lock from the inside. Currently Emmaus H.S. classroom doors lock from the outside, which means that innocent teachers would be putting themselves in harms way in a similar event to what happened at Sandy Hook.
3) All building entrances should be monitored at all times, including before and after normal school hours
4) All students and staff should have visible identification at all times when on school property
