Emmaus High Boys Fitness Team Wins National Title – Again

Girls Fitness Team places second in San Diego competition.

Proud mama Karen O’Donnell reports that the Emmaus High School Fitness team once again made a strong showing at the Marine Corps National Fitness Competition in San Diego last week.

The EHS Boys Team, she says, took first place, with a total of 2,391 combined points - the highest point total ever scored at the Marine National Fitness Competition. This year’s win marks the 4th straight title for the boys.

“Junior, Samuel O'Donnell (my son) won the first place title with a 493/500 - followed by 2nd place sophomore, Will Martinez, from EHS,” O’Donnell wrote in an email message to Emmaus Patch.

The EHS Girls Team placed 2nd at the National Competition, with junior Alexandra Fruhwirth winning the title for the team, according to O’Donnell.

O’Donnell provides another interesting tidbit about the EHS Fitness Teams and their coach, George Gibbs, who has been coaching the team for more than 40 years.

“In fact, he coached my husband and his brothers (Sam O'Donnell's dad and uncles) as well as Sam's two brothers,” O’Donnell wrote. “His brother Jacob was the National champion last year.”

O’Donnell also managed to procure the pictures included with this article from another team mother who attended the San Diego event last week.
