Emmaus Councilman Wes Barrett to Run for County Commissioner

Emmaus Councilman Wesley Barrett has not officially announced his candidacy for Lehigh County Commissioner, but the Lehigh County Democratic Party has started leaking the news about his intentions.

Emmaus Councilman Wesley Barrett was at the Emmaus Triangle at around 5 p.m. Wednesday for the announcement of a Lehigh County Democratic Party candidate in the November election.

That candidate wasn’t supposed to be him.

But, if you were listening carefully, you learned that Barrett’s name will be on the ballot this fall as a Democratic candidate for District 5 in the Lehigh County Commissioner’s race.

That news came out during a speech by Democrat Tom Muller, the director of administration for Lehigh County, who came to Emmaus Wednesday to announce that he intends to run for Lehigh County Executive. Muller told those in attendance that he was happy to be standing with the full slate of democratice commissioner candidates, including Barrett.

After Muller’s speech, Barrett confirmed that he intends to run for Lehigh County Commissioner in November, although he hasn’t “officially” announced his candidacy. He said that the Lehigh County Democrats have slowly getting the word out for him, through events and speeches such as Muller’s.

Emmaus Patch readers should stay tuned for a more official announcement regarding his candidacy in the coming weeks, he says. Although he will be running unopposed in the Democratic primary, he says he intends to run a full campaign, knocking on doors and talking to constituents.

Emmaus Councilman Nathan Brown is running for Lehigh County Commissioner in District 5 on the GOP ticket.
