Emmaus Council Chooses a new Food Vendor for Park
Borough will enter into a one-year contract with Kathie Bennie for the concessions stand at Emmaus Community Park.
Emmaus Borough Council unanimously decided Monday night to enter into a one-year contract with Kathie Bennie of Emmaus as the new vendor of the concessions stand at Emmaus Community Park.
Council’s vote was based on a recommendation from the board’s Parks and Recreation Committee, which interviewed four potential vendors on May 17.
During a committee meeting prior to the Council meeting, members Wesley Barrett, Brian Holtzhafer and Brent Labenberg said all four candidates were excellent and the decision was difficult.
However, Barrett said, Bennie lives one block from the park and has firsthand knowledge of its activities.
Labenberg said Bennie will maintain prices at the food stand and she might even lower some of the prices later in the year.
In addition, Labenberg said, Bennie is interested in hiring local people and she plans to seek volunteers from the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who would go into the crowd to get food orders from senior citizens who have mobility issues.
Bennie will begin working at the concessions stand on May 26. The food stand serves swimmers at the pool and other visitors to Emmaus Community Park.
The borough began advertising in February for a new food vendor at the park. However, Labenberg said Monday night that the borough didn’t receive applicants until the media began doing stories on the situation.
In the past, council has said it isn’t looking to make money from the concessions stand. The borough just wants a food stand to serve the community.
