I'm curious why Julian Stolz voted against the make up day. Also, I have to say I was annoyed that our school was shut down even though we didn't need to do so.

That Monday is meant to be a family day....that's probably where my kids will be, with me and our family......

They have off Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Plenty of time for family time.

Julian has a lot to explain about a lot of his votes. Come November 8, a lot of us hope we won't have to worry about him any more.

Everybody said that last time about Julian, and he got in....I think too many people tell you what you want to hear but vote the way they feel......

When the roads flood, and there is no bus service, it should be announced as a two hour delay with no bus service. Was the school an island? Were all schools closed in EPSD? The Superintendent over reacted by closing....and plans will have to be changed so the children can attend school...thats if you really care about education. I've never heard of having monday off.....

It doesn't bother me that we are making up this day. I would rather do that then go later in June.

What has been on my mind is this: ALL of the schools in East Penn were closed, due to a FEW, specific bus routes being affected by flooding. This didn't make much sense.

Also, two years ago when ALL East Penn schools had to close because of NO bus transportation due to the bus driver strike. After only one day of shut down, all schools developed and executed a plan to have school despite this (parent drop-offs, designated drop off and pick up locations, etc.) I keep wondering why those FEW schools affected by the flooding couldn't have done that in this case, and the schools not affected operate as usual. It would have made so much more sense since schools have proven they can have school without bus service, at least for a short time.

I see no problem with making up monday. but im not sure why it took the district 2 days to figure out that they can move the bus stops for those roads, and the kids can still go to school without a problem. It would have only taken a phone call like we got the other week when they were at school and the roads flooded. It is not rocket science, there are other roads in the district.

I think it is a major time for changes in the East Penn School District. It appears they cannot make logical emergency decisions. Same thing happened last year when the bus issue came up. Then all they had to do is have the parents drop and pick the student off or the parents could have made other arrangements to get the child to school. The parents had do do something to accomodate the unplanned canceled school day. If you visit any school in the morning you will see many parents dropping off the students. Thanksgiving is one of the most traveled holidays and planned mini vacation times of the year.

I have no problem erring on the side of safety. Flooding conditions can change very rapidly. I'd rather cancel school than use some half-baked alternate pick-up site - that might work for a ongoing or continuing detour where some planning is possible, but not for something that is unexpected and just happened.
