East Penn Candidates Ignore CEPTA Invite
John Reynard, who is running for the 134th State House Seat, and Rick Daugherty, who is running in the 15th Congressional District, are the only candidates who responded to a CEPTA Candidates Night invitation for Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Six invitations to tonight’s CEPTA - East Penn Candidates Night were distributed, but just two affirmative RSVPs came back, according to John Donches of the Concerned East Penn Taxpayers Association (CEPTA).
Emmaus resident John Reynard, who is running for the 134th State House Seat, and Rick Daugherty, who is running in the 15th Congressional District, are the only candidates who accepted an invitation to tonight's CEPTA Candidates Night, Donches said.
CEPTA invited the candidates running in the three races that impact the East Penn School District -- the 134th and 131st State House races and the 15th U.S. Congressional race, he explained.
The candidate pairings in those races are:
134th State House Race
Incumbent Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-134th) vs. Democratic Challenger John Reynard
131st State House Race
Incumbent Rep. Justin Simmons (R-131st ) vs. Democratic Challenger John Deely
15th U.S. Congressional Race
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Charles Dent (R-15th) vs. Democratic Challenger Rick Daugherty
Of the six candidates, only Reynard and Daugherty had answered the CEPTA invitation positively as of late Monday afternoon, Donches told Emmaus Patch. There had been no response at all from Simmons or Deely. As a result, Donches said he expected that none of the other candidates would be participating in tonight's event.
Candidates Night is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Fire Company #1, corner of 6th and Broad streets in Emmaus. The program, which will include the chance for audience members to ask questions of the candidates, will run approximately two hours.

Point of clarification. I did not say the candidates did not respond. What I said was that the other candidates had other commitments. Who knows for sure? They may be able to come tonight if there is a change in their schedule

CEPTA has become too polarizing a group to play this role.

I would like to mention a web site, ( epcat.us ), that CEPTA uses to host our video recordings we have of our meetings. Anyone can go there and see the previous “Candidates Nights” we sponsored. There are also many other useful public informational subjects such as; a three part forum on public education within the EPSD area and a disaster preparedness talk given by Emmaus fire and ambulance corps. You will also be able to see Emmaus Borough Committee meetings and East Penn School District board meetings. Just type- epcat.us in your search engine of choice and check out the many polarizing videos of interest within the East Penn area.
Please come out and ask the Candidates some questions. That’s why we host these types of events and remember they are free and open to all, hope to see you there.
