Do you remember the police car in the television series "The Andy Griffith Show?"

There was a very similar vehicle on display at Dave’s Interior Restoration July 8 for the Second Annual Collector Car Appreciation Day. It even had the bullet holes in the door to give it that little extra bit of authenticity.

David Brady, owner of Dave’s Interior Restoration, said, “These [antique] cars are my toys. I get vehicles from all over the country for restoration."

His main business however, consists of restoring “modern cars.”  He has re-upholstered, re-carpeted, replaced convertible tops, and much more at his Emmaus shop since opening in 1986. 

The oldest car he has ever restored was a 1905 Cadillac and he only had pictures to go by, he said. 

Brady added that he also restored a horse buggy, which is on permanent display at the Lockridge Park in Alburtis.

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) wants to make Collector Car Appreciation Day an annual event designed to "raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society,” according to its Web site. The group is also working to secure a Congressional resolution recognizing the day’s significance.
