‘Burn ban’ in Upper Milford Still in Effect

With only a small chance of rain in the forecast, open burning remains prohibited in Upper Milford Township.

Upper Milford Township Supervisor George DeVault took the opportunity to remind Upper Milford residents that the "burn ban" in the township remains in effect, during his Supervisors' report at last night's Upper Milford Township Board of Supervisors meeting.

“There’s a possibility of rain in the weekend forecast, but that may or may not happen and things out there are still tinder dry,” DeVault said. “So, the burn ban is still in effect.”

Upper Milford Township instituted a ban on open burning on April 5, based on the joint recommendation of the fire chiefs of Upper Milford’s two fire companies -- Citizen's Fire Co. and Upper Milford Western District Fire Co. No. 1.

According to township ordinance, a ban on open burning can only be enacted when called for by both fire chiefs. Township code defines open burning as “as a fire, not directed through a flue, which emits air contaminants directly into the outdoor atmosphere.”

How will township residents know when the ban is lifted?

Emmaus Patch is working closely with the township to keep everyone up-to-date on this story. Keep in mind that even if it does rain this weekend, it may not be enough for the ban to be lifted. The relative humidity in our area is extremely low right now -- some last night termed it Arizona-like.

If it was me burning during a burn ban and I lit a good accidental forest fire I would feel like a real ass

Nice picture of a family at a camp fire....this is not the average type of open burining in Upper Milford. The archaic practice of trash burning in barrels along with those obessessed with burning yard waste is the norm. With all the talk about pollution controls from run off of rain and other issues I wonder if U.M. has ever considered the environmental damage done and how much pollution is spewed by township residents and their 'burn piles & barrels' ? One day it has to stop.
