Seven Generations Charter School's Fifth Grade is Collecting Donations for Occupy Sandy Relief - December 3-14

We have learned in our fifth grade Systems Unit that a system is a group of organized parts that work together to reach an ultimate goal or outcome. If any part of the system is changed, the nature of the outcome will also change. We noticed that Hurricane Sandy has affected many systems in New York and New Jersey, including heating systems, water systems, businesses, family units, and transportation. Families do not have a place to call home and businesses are broken. People cannot support their families!

There are many who want to help and donate items but don't know how or who to contact. Well, Ms. Brook's class is here to help! We are collecting items from December 3 - December 14, 2012 to support the Occupy Sandy organization. Occupy Sandy is a volunteer-based organization helping the neighborhoods and people who are affected by Hurricane Sandy. For more information on Occupy Sandy you can visit their Web site at interoccupy.net.

Items needed:

  • Bottled water
  • Non-perishable food
  • Contractor garbage bags
  • Cleaning supplies (sponges, laundry soap, dish soap, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, Mold-X)
  • Tyvek worksuits
  • Rubber work gloves
  • P100 particle respirator masks
  • Diapers
  • Toilet paper
  • Industrial mop buckets
  • String mops
  • Push brooms
  • Batteries
  • Flashlights

Donations may be dropped off from December 3-14, at Seven Generations Charter School, 154 East Minor Street, Emmaus, PA, 18049 during school hours.

It is our goal to take these items up to the main New York Distribution Center in Brooklyn, New York, on December 15th, 2012.

If you would like more information, please contact Ms. Brook's fifth grade class at brook.graves@sevengen.org.
