The Healthy Habits Bring Blues & Folk Music to Emmaus
An interview with singer Scott Eggert
Local musician Scott Eggert has devoted his life to his passion. It takes on many forms – Instrumental Music Instructor at Seven Generations Charter School, Music Director at Unity of Lehigh Valley and singer for the band Healthy Habits, to name a few. Eggert says he lives for music. It helps that he has an amazing voice to go with his passion.
Who is in the band?
Well, me, Mike Gill, Michael Duane and Andy Bresnan, but Andy can’t be with us at our upcoming concert, so my musician friend Steve Heineman will be stepping in on bass guitar.
Where did you meet?
The majority of us met as co-founders of Seven Generations Charter School. A few of us also play together in a group called the Emmaus Public Singing Society, headed up by Andy Bresnan.
How long have you been together?
We have been playing together on and off since 2008.
What is the deal with the name?
At the last show we did at Unity, the talk title up on the marquee was "Healthy Habits". At the beginning of the concert Andy jokingly said to the audience, "Good evening! We're the Healthy Habits!" and the name just stuck.
Where do you perform?
The Healthy Habits have primarily been seen at Unity and at fundraisers for Seven Generations. Emmaus Public Singing Society plays regularly at the Emmaus Farmers' Market and other outdoor venues.
What is your favorite thing about being in a band?
Playing music is what I live for. I often say that they don't pay me to play, they pay me to schlep my stuff around and drive long distances. The playing part is my joy.
Do you have a favorite genre of music?
I don't really have a favorite style, although I feel most at home with R&B. The style doesn't matter to me as much as the experience of playing with other musicians. By myself, it’s not as much fun.
The Healthy Habits will be performing Blues & Folk music at Unity of Lehigh Valley on Saturday, September 29th at 8:00pm.
