Students in grades 10-12 and older adults will enjoy an opportunity of a lifetime when the Da Vinci Science Center and St. Luke’s University Health Network offer their first public medical school program.

A part of the Da Vinci Science Center’s Year of the Human Body project, the St. Luke’s University Mini-Medical School was created to raise awareness of medical advances in Lehigh Valley region, introduce students to medical careers, and highlight the Temple/St. Luke’s Regional Medical School program.

Adults ages 62 and up and students in grades 10-12 will take part in the simulated medical school program during four sessions on selected Saturdays starting Feb. 9, 2013. The first two sessions will be held at the Da Vinci Science Center and the third and fourth sessions will be held at the Temple/St. Luke’s Regional Medical School program campus in Bethlehem, Pa.

The St. Luke’s University Mini-Medical School with Da Vinci Science Center will focus on the human cardiovascular system on four select Saturdays. Participants will attend lectures, explore the world-renowned Bodies Revealed exhibition inside the Da Vinci Science Center, conduct hands-on experiments, and prepare for a simulated final exam and graduation ceremony on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The adult sessions will be held from 8-10 a.m. on the four program Saturdays, and the student sessions will be held from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The program will be free for students and grades 10-12 and available for just $25.00 for adults ages 62 and up.

Availability is extremely limited for the mini-medical school program. Students and adults who complete an online registration form by Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at 3 p.m. will be placed into a lottery from which the participants will be drawn randomly. Completion of the online registration form does not guarantee selection into the program. Selected applicants will be notified on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013. The Year of the Human Body project, presented by St. Luke’s University Health Network, is a coordinated presentation of visitor exhibits, public programs, and industry ventures intended to broaden interest and participation in medical careers. The world-famous Bodies Revealed exhibition – a production of Premier Exhibitions of Atlanta, Ga. – is appearing currently through Sunday, Feb. 18, 2013. A second blockbuster exhibition – Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body – will appear at the Center from May 18-Sept. 2, 2013.
